About

Hi! Thanks for stopping by the centsible shopper blog. Wondering who this blogger is and what makes her think she is so centsible? Well, frugal…yes. Sensible? You be the judge.

Last summer my husband went back to school to work on his doctorate, a long time dream and goal I strongly support. Not long after he got underway, I looked at all of the expenses associated with his program and at our bottom line every month and I freaked. Yes, I know…generally people plan ahead, save in advance, and set financial goals prior to entering post graduate school. Well, we didn’t. So in a moment of desperation I prayed “Lord Help, we’ve screwed up, we are in the red, this doesn’t add up, please help us do a better job of managing what you have provided for our family”.

A week or so later I recalled a conversation I had with a friend some time back. She had mentioned a grocery game that used coupons for saving. I searched Google for the Grocery Game and that is what started my journey into the world of couponing, stockpiling and frugal living. At night after putting the kids to bed when my husband was writing and working on projects, I was studying couponing and reading every book or blog that I could wrap my brain around.

I’m not an expert by any means, but I am off to a good start and moving in a great direction for our family. We have slashed our grocery budget, built up a reasonable stock pile, and regularly given away food and household items to charity. Along the way, I have been sharing my saving successes, frugal failures, and life lessons with my friends and family. Until now, I had been e-mailing the deals, and teaching the couponing basics in classes at church and in the homes of friends. My friends in turn had been sharing with their friends in other parts of the country. Now, this is my forum for sharing and I’m looking forward to learning more too. I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Holly
