One of my goals for the summer was to do a series of blog posts on charitable giving. I failed to get those posts up in June as I had hoped, but I am excited about the giving opportunities in September and thought this would be a good time to get the ball rolling.
I’m a firm believer in plugging into your local community. I want my children to see a model in our home of me and my husband regularly considering the needs of others. Whether it be giving financially and serving in our local church, taking a meal to a neighbor or supporting local organizations, there are ways for all of us to reach beyond ourselves to help people in need. That’s why I was so excited to learn of a way I can support one of my favorite non-profit organizations this month - The Children’s Hospital of Alabama (TCHA).
I’m due for an oil change and in a few days I’ll be stopping by Express Oil and participating in the Changing Oil, Changing Lives campaign benefiting The Children’s Hospital. Express Oil’s thirty-three Central Alabama locations (in Jefferson & Shelby counties) will be donating $1 from every oil change or service repair preformed in September to TCHA.
Can you think of an easier way to give? I believe we are often paralyzed into inaction when we compare our efforts to those that appear to have bigger bank accounts or more recognizable accomplishments (at least I have been guilty of such). Collaborating with larger groups in joint efforts to give is a great way to participate in supporting your community. If your not in central Alabama, seek out opportunities like this in your home town or better yet start one yourself.
